INTERNATIONAL AUTISM DAY AWARDS

Autism Asperger ACT will present awards to members of the community
who have made outstanding contributions to Autism in the ACT.

These awards will be presented at our
International Autism Day Celebration on Thursday 2 April 2009.

To families and individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD):

·         Has someone made a real difference to your family or a family that you know or the cause of autism generally?

·         Would you like to acknowledge this publicly?

 Then consider nominating them for one of our International Autism Day awards.

 To professionals and others working in the field of ASD:

·         Has someone inspired you with his/her expertise and dedication?

·         Do you know someone working in this area that you feel should be publicly acknowledged for his/her contributions?

 Then consider nominating them for one of our International Autism Day awards.

 Nominating is easy.  Just read through these guidelines and prepare a nomination using the pro forma as a guide.  NOMINATIONS NEED TO BE LODGED BY MONDAY 23 MARCH.

Intent of the Autism Asperger ACT International Autism Day Awards.

·         To acknowledge the contributions of individuals to the field of ASD in the specific fields of professional and community service.

·         To provide public recognition of the work of people in the field of ASD.

·         To inform the public of services and contributions made by individuals.

 Eligibility

 The nominee and nominator must be members in good standing with the ASD community.

Award Categories Exemplary Service Award

                                    Individual Achievement Award

                                    Patronage Award

                                    Business Partnership Award

                                    Parent/Carer Award

 Award Criteria

a)     Promoted awareness of ASDs.

b)     Demonstrated leadership within the area of service delivery.

c)      Contributed to the furtherance of Autism Asperger ACT and/or their goals, objectives and activities.

d)     Demonstrated leadership within their professional domain.

e)     Developed and/or implemented innovative programs.

f)       Wrote or published major papers, articles, books or pamphlets that benefit the ASD community.

g)     Contributed in other areas deemed appropriate by the nominator/seconder.

 Application of Criteria

·         In appraising the qualifications of those nominated, priority shall be given to consistent and exemplary contributions made to benefit people with an ASD, their families and associated services and/or professions.

 ·         A Selection Committee consisting of three members (or nominees) of the Autism Asperger ACT Committee shall make the selection of the recipient(s).

 Presentation of the Awards

 The Autism Asperger ACT International Autism Day Awards will be presented at our International Autism Day Celebration on Thursday 2 April 6.30 –8.30 pm in the West Lounge of the Canberra Stadium.  Recipients will receive a certificate and be profiled in the Autism Asperger ACT Newsletter, Autism Awareness, and in media releases.

 Format for Submissions

 Nominators must use the format on the following page.  (SEE ATTACHED FORM)

Submissions are not to exceed 2 pages in length and can be typed or handwritten.  Nominees do not have to be informed of your nomination – that is your decision.  Autism Asperger ACT will advise all nominators of the outcome and will contact all successful recipients.
